We chat with TheAfterparty stars SamRichardson and Zoë Chao about their favorite genres this season and the new sides of their characters the appletv series explores:
The Afterparty returns with a new murder in the second season that draws Detective Danner, Zoë, and Aniq together again. Although Zoë and Aniq are no longer prime suspects, this case is just as personal, with Zoë's family now falling under suspicion when her sister's new husband is found dead.
Screen Rant spoke with Sam Richardson and Zoë Chao about the second season of The Afterparty. Richardson discussed how Aniq is able to investigate without being a suspect this season, and Chao broke down the new sides of Zoë that will be explored. They also shared their favorite genres to play in this season and pitched two genres that they would want in a potential third season of The Afterparty.
Sam Richardson: I think it was exciting to have Aniq be able to be out of the gaze of suspicion in this season. Really getting to interact, sort of take a commanding role, and trying to figure out something out in the open this time. He's not trying to hide what he's doing to save himself. He's trying to save Zoë's sister and then to save his relationship with Zoë, but then still solve this mystery with Danner.
Sam Richardson: Well, the show is on pretty tight rails because it's a murder mystery. So, all the pieces have to fit, but it's remarkable how much we are allowed to play within that. You have all these dynamic actors and comedians on set so it'd be a shame to leave money on the table and not let them do what they do best. And so everybody is so funny.
