2023 Newscenter Fairbanks Holiday Toy Drive
This event has been going on for more than two decades in the Golden Heart City, with each year bringing new kinds of gifts. “Some of our favorites are the baby Yodas, for sure. We got a couple, so we’re super pleased about that. A handful of unicorns, and that’s always fun, but definitely some coloring and art projects,” said Smith.
The season saw a variety of donations come in from all across the community. According to Handy, “This year we have been seeing a lot of gift cards, which means a lot to us. We received over $600 in gift cards, and those are especially important for ages 13 to 17.” These efforts respond to an unfortunate need in the community. “There are children out there who don’t get a Christmas, or who don’t have an opportunity to open something on Christmas eve, or on Christmas Day,” explained Smith.
The drive also brings people together through the joy of giving. “Everyone’s happy to be dropping off their toys,” said Harvill. Thank you all for showing your golden heart this holiday season.
