From spaghetti to secret steak, downtown Dallas has always been a culinary hub.
Ask a businessperson about downtown Dallas' most influential restaurants, and Dakota's Steakhouse makes the list. The restaurant opened 40 years ago, in 1984. It remains one of the city’s best, where diners can enjoy raw fish, high-end beef, soba and Japanese whisky in a room that feels more like Tokyo than Dallas. Chef-owner Teiichi “Teach” Sakurai serves “the top customer base in the city,” said fellow restaurateur Bob Sambol, founder of Bob’s Steak & Chop House. Indeed: Sakurai knew his audience when he opened a members-only rooftop lounge to make deep-pocketed Dallasites feel extra special.
. The restaurant employs teens who have gone into the juvenile justice system . They’re taught life skills, chef training and front-of-restaurant jobs — and they’re paid.by the house-made bread, sweet tea brined pork chop and smoked fried chicken prepared and served by teens given a second chance.
