Staples was last seen by her husband who had gone for a bike ride and returned to find her gone. She had followed him on a wrong path and eventually got lost. A search was organized after her disappearance.

A Texas woman was found safe after being missing for more than 30 hours in Big Bend Ranch State Park last week, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Roanoke resident Debra Staples, 56, was last seen Nov. 26 around 9:30 a.m., when her husband left the West Contrabando Trailhead to bike one of the trails. When he returned about an hour later, both Staples and her bike were gone.

When she reached a crossroads in the trail, she took the wrong path. Her bike eventually got a flat tire, so she left it behind and continued on foot.

launched an aerial search using drones with thermal detection. Searches resumed the morning of Nov. 27. Sometime that afternoon, Staples found her way to Sauceda Ranger Station, which is 20 miles from where she was last seen. announced at 7:30 p.m. that Staples was found 'alive and well' and reunited with her family after over 30 hours of wandering the park. personnel, U.S. Border Patrol, the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety Aircraft Operations and El Paso Fire Department’s Combined Search and Rescue Team participated in the searches for Staples.
