By mid-October, Texas will be withdrawn from the Electronic Registration Information Center, or ERIC. It ensures there aren’t voters registered in two places at once. Capital Tonight's reportsbychar explains the rationale for the decision.

PUBLISHED 6:59 AM CDT Aug. 01, 2023AUSTIN, Texas — By mid-October, Texas will be withdrawn from the Electronic Registration Information Center, or ERIC. It ensures there aren’t voters registered in two places at once.

In April, when the bill was heard by a House panel, Republicans asked questions about rumors ERIC sells and shares data. Christina Adkins with the Secretary of State’s office testified then that she’s not aware of data-sharing Rep. Bucy, who sits on the House elections committee, says it’s frustrating to see the state leave ERIC. Texas joined in 2020 to get accurate voter data.

“Right now, there's a lot of questions, a lot of fears, a lot of unfounded fears,” Hogue said. “But government needs to make sure that we're not causing more questions to be asked. We need to start answering questions and restoring the public's trust in our election system.”
