Texas State had reportedly been targeted as a potential expansion candidate by the Mountain West and Pac-12 in recent weeks.
Texas State is sticking with the Sun Belt Conference – for now. The school had reportedly been in talks with the Mountain West Conference in recent weeks about joining as an all-sports member. Those conversations appear to have come to an end after the MWC on Tuesday announced it will add UTEP as a member in all sports beginning in the 2026-27 academic year.

ESPN's Pete Thamel last week also reported that the Pac-12 had shown interest in adding Texas State as part of its ongoing expansion in an effort to gain a foothold in Texas. But as of Wednesday, the league has paused its expansion efforts while as it prepares to evaluate media rights for its eight current members, CBS Sports' Brandon Marcello reported.
