Texas on Tuesday secured a $1.4 billion settlement with Meta after Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the company over its use of facial recognition technology on Facebook . The state claimed Facebook 's 'tag suggestions' feature ran afoul of Texas law prohibiting companies from collecting biometric data from customers with their consent.
' BACKGROUND: Texas sues Facebook parent company over use of facial recognition technology 'Any abuse of Texans’ sensitive data will be met with the full force of the law,” Paxton said in a statement touting the settlement. Meta did not admit to any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
