According to Martinez’s written plea agreement, he began communicating with the Mobile girl last year, using a cell phone music application called Smule. According to the plea agreement, the girl’s mother discovered the emails in June and reported it to the FBI, which took control of the account and posed as the girl, who by this time had turned 13.
