The Texas House on Wednesday overwhelmingly passed a bill that repeals the state sales tax on diapers, period products, baby wipes and other similar materials.
, by Austin Democratic Rep. Donna Howard, passed on the House floor and now head to the Senate, where it is unclear if the chamber will approve the bill or make any changes.
“We have an increasingly aging population, many of whom are on fixed incomes,” Slaton said from the House floor., said the bill shows the positive impact the Legislature can have when it works on a bipartisan basis.The bill has bipartisan supportThe bill removes the 6¼-cent sales tax from a number of products, which supporters said would help low-income families.“This bill provides an opportunity to help Texas families at every stage of life,” Howard said Tuesday.
