Rodney Terry's first offseason as Texas' head coach has featured all sorts of twists and turns. But there's no reason to panic yet.

Texas head coach Rodney Terry's first offseason at the helm has been full of roster turnover via transfer and otherwise.AUSTIN — Rodney Terry’s first offseason as Texas’ head coach has swerved between heartening and concerning enough times to produce whiplash in anyone watching from the outside.

Since Terry was named the full-time head coach on March 27, Texas has seen six players defect in one way or another. Freshman guard Arterio Morris transferred to Kansas, redshirt freshman guard Rowan Brumbaugh transferred to Georgetown and incoming five-star freshman AJ Johnson decided to turn pro and sign with the Illawarra Hawks of the Australian NBL.

Weaver could slide into the sixth man role Sir’Jabari Rice thrived in last year. The 6-3 guard averaged 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and two assists while hitting 40 percent of his 3s as a freshman at UT-Arlington. And Onyema, who previously played for Terry at UTEP in 2020-21, fits well as the successor to energetic backup big Christian Bishop, who provided a huge lift off the bench last season.

Terry and his staff still have some work to do to rounding out this roster. Because this team, as currently constructed, has some conspicuous holes – particularly in the backcourt. Though that could soon be rectified.
