Cam Coleman caught 4 TD passes as Central-Phenix City rolled past Auburn.
Whenever Central-Phenix City needed a big play, it didn’t take time to ponder the possibilities. It had merely to dial 8.
That’s the jersey worn by wide receiver Cam Coleman, who airlifted the No. 1-ranked Red Devils to a 41-20 victory over No. 3 Auburn Friday night at Duck Samford Stadium. Coleman — the five-star Texas A&M commitment and the state’s No. 1-ranked senior prospect — caught nine passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns as Central won the 7A Region 2 championship and home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
Quarterback Andrew Alford, the leading passer in Class 7A, was 14-of-24 passing for 341 yards and the four TDs to the 6-foot-4 Coleman of 64, 62 and 26 yards and 1 yard. “I don’t apologize for him being on my team and I don’t apologize for using him,” Red Devils coach Patrick Nix said. “He’s arguably the best football player in the country. They all either double team him and it’s hard to handle the rest of the offense or if they go single, he has this kind of night. Just his presence out there, it’s huge how he affects the game.”If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
