Gov. Lee said there are a lot of needs in East Tennessee, especially the northern section, some as basic as people not having clean drinking water.
As parts of East Tennessee still grapple with the destruction from Hurricane Helene , Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said immediate help is on the way with his Helene Emergency Assistance Loans or HEAL Program.
Alex Campbell showed FOX 17 News how close his Hampton Home is to Laurel Fork Creek, which recently overflowed. He said the recovery relief he has seen is mostly by organizations with schools, churches, and private citizens.“It is just going to take time,” he said. “I am not going to wait for FEMA to put my shop on its foundation so I am doing it myself.”
This is the heart behind his HEAL program. It was announced Thursday that it offers $100 million to help in Helene’s aftermath for several counties, including Carter County, where Campbell lives.“It is definitely needed, I mean I don’t think people understand,” said Campbell. “People are walking in waterthey are walking with mules and horses because there is no road.”
