The Tennessee National Guard has released the names of the two pilots who died in a fiery helicopter crash in Alabama on Wednesday afternoon.
Chief Warrant Officer 3 Daniel Wadham, who had 15 years of service in the National Guard, and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Danny Randolph, who had 13 years of service, were killed when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed during a training flight near Highway 53 in Huntsville.“Words cannot express my sorrow for the loss of these two Tennessee National Guardsmen,” Brig. Gen. Warner Ross, Tennessee’s adjutant general, said in a statement on Thursday.
The helicopter was flying out of Nashville’s Berry Field Air National Guard Base, where the men were assigned, and had been flying to the Huntsville Executive Airport when the Black Hawk rapidly descended and crashed, a press release shared with the Washington Examiner said. The scene of the crash was secured Wednesday afternoon when the Madison County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene. The sheriff's office said it received a call about the crash around 3 p.m. First responders claimed the helicopter was"engulfed in flames."
Given the state of the helicopter, the sheriff's office determined there were no survivors, and the vehicle itself was deemed a complete loss.Federal and state authorities are still investigating the accident, and no cause for the crash has been released so far.
