Several people were hurt Saturday evening when a group of teenagers on e-bikes shot fireworks in Hermosa Beach, according to police.
The incident was reported as an explosion at Pier Plaza around 8:30 p.m., police said. Officers determined it was actually fireworks set off by a group of minors, who fled the area.John Fahmy, who was walking in the area at the time of the incident, was struck by one of the fireworks.
"So, it hit me in the back of my head right here and partially my back of my ears," Fahmy said."And yeah, I was just like, my ears were ringing crazy for a few minutes,"Sign up for NBC LA newsletters. Police were able to detain two boys believed to be involved in the incident and called their parents. Because law enforcement believes those individuals weren't the ones who actually set off the fireworks, they were not arrested.
Officials added that video taken of the incident helped them identify the individual who set off the fireworks. That boy has not yet been arrested. Injuries were minimal and ranged from ringing ears to some burn marks on T-shirts.
