The teens began fighting each other, and some jumped on cars or broke windows in one store, according to interim Chicago Police Supt. Fred Waller. There were no reports of injuries. The arrests "should send a message" to the families of the suspects, Waller said. "We know everyone doesn’t have a predictable home life, but we’re trying to deal with the youth in a certain way — to try to offer other things for them to do and other avenues."Additionally, the 7/11 convenience store on Grenshaw and Jefferson in the South Loop was destroyed. Inside, shelves were toppled to the floor. The parking lot was trashed.
