SAN DIEGO — The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office on Wednesday identified the teenage driver who died in a fiery police pursuit crash late Monday night, leading to the death of a San Diego Police officer and leaving a fellow officer critically injured.According to the medical examiner's office, at around 11:30 p.m. on Aug.
26, 16-year-old Edgar Giovanny Oviedo was driving a BMW sedan eastbound on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard when he laterally collided with a San Diego Police Department patrol vehicle that was northbound at the intersection at Doliva Drive.Paramedics who responded to the scene provided life-saving measures while transporting Oveido to a local hospital, but he was died after arrival.The driver of the police vehicle — Officer Austin Machitar, a 30-year-old father of four — passed away at the scene.
