At the daylong Oct. 22 conference, 11 speakers will talk about"ideas worth spreading" and friction can generate the energy to spread those ideas, according to co-organizer and executive producer Jeanmarie Grimsley. Friction, she said,"is the necessary ingredient and the place where true innovation begins."

"The speakers … are wonderfully diverse and will share powerful ideas on topics ranging from space infrastructure to artificial intelligence and from civic leadership to health care innovation," Grimsley said. , which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, started in 1984 as a one-time event in Silicon Valley in California.

In 2012 Doug Coleman, one of the leaders who created Riverside Arts Market, applied for the license to bring it to Jacksonville as TEDxRiversideAvondale. The following year it expanded its reach as TEDxJacksonville, which is an all-volunteer event.The 2022 event is 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in the Terry Theatre at the Center for the Performing Arts, 300 Water St. in downtown Jacksonville. An after-party will be at the Jessie Ball duPont Center, 40 E Adams St., also downtown.

Tickets are $125, which includes multiple lunch options, and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of student tickets are available for $64. To purchase, go to
