Yvonne Strahovski & Scott Speedman Teacup Interview header
Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman are a married couple whose troubled family life becomes all the more harrowing when faced with a mysterious threat in Teacup. Strahovski is a two-time Emmy and Golden Globe nominee, having found acclaim in everything from her breakout roles in NBC's spy comedy Chuck and Showtime's Dexter to Kiefer Sutherland's 24: Live Another Day and Elisabeth Moss' The Handmaid's Tale, among many others.
Alongside Strahovski and Speedman, the ensemble Teacup cast includes Émilie Bierre as Meryl, Caleb Dolden as Arlo, The Ranch's Kathy Baker as Ellen, Blindspot alum Chaske Spencer, Evil's Boris McGiver and Marvel Cinematic Universe vet Rob Morgan. Hailing from Yellowstone alum Ian McCulloch and executive produced by The Conjuring Universe creator James Wan, the show is a chilling continuation of the small town puzzle box formula that has become popular in recent years.
Yvonne Strahovski: I remember thinking,"Wow, this is a really classy piece of writing for what we're doing here. For horror, it's got a lot of depth to it," which is, I think, maybe surprising, and it's surprisingly emotional, as well. I remember sitting down with Ian and speaking to him about the project, and he just had such a great vision for it, as well, in what he wanted to focus on, even though it is a genre piece.
Scott Speedman: Yeah, for me, I don't think there's any way to really control what the audience is going to do at this point in my career. I knew Yvonne has worked so well from other things, like Handmaid's and other stuff like that, and I could really see how she was going to be a great partner in the scenes we had to do throughout. So, instinctually.
Scott Speedman: I mean, for me, I was doing one of the first ones, I think, with a character in one of the earlier episodes. What was cool, and what was awesome was it wasn't looking at a tennis ball on a tripod, or a green screen kind of thing. Most of it was practical effects that were, you know, detailed later, so we actually had something amazing to work with. At this point in my career, I've done so much that it doesn't really do a lot to me.
