Fatal motorcycle crashes shouldn't be dismissed as a sad fact of life.
With three fatal motorcycle crashes in Hudson County and at least two more statewide last month, it’s time for local and state officials to appoint a joint task force to find ways to mitigate the dangers.
It’s no secret that motorcycle riders are at an especially great risk of dying in a crash. And while officials have devised programs to try to address the issue, the numbers are still shocking., 85 people died in motorcycle crashes in New Jersey in 2017; 55 in 2018; 84 in 2019; 78 in 2020; and 99 in 2021. Most of the deaths were the drivers, but among the fatalities were also several motorcycle passengers and one pedestrian.
