Detention basins play a key role in stormwater management; however, accessibility for maintenance is a priority.
The Tanglewood detention basin maintenance project is located 600 feet west of Ridge Road and north of Sprague Road in Parma . That’s why the city is moving forward with its Tanglewood detention basin maintenance project.“This basin when it’s filled with water and clogged with debris doesn’t provide a detention value for the system, so it’s important to make sure these systems are functioning properly -- especially post a rain event.
“That’s what this project is doing, basically taking that drain from the middle of the pond, moving it closer to the outlet structure where our maintenance crews can access it. Then in addition we’re going to clean up that area to prohibit some of that debris from clogging that drain in the first place.”
“We would have had to rent equipment and then it would have been a new thing for us to try to navigate through these problems. So we’re really getting a really good bang for the buck.” The expected excavation of 110 cubic yards of material will be followed by the installation of rock channel protection with fabric after regrading.“It’s really incredibly difficult to access, so they’re going to regrade and re-establish the construction entrance to that basin in the event we do need to come back there in the future for maintenance. It’ll be easier for us to access.
