Two of Bexar County ’s largest school districts can’t explain the odd taste and consistency of a batch of strawberry milk that was pulled from more than 200 campus cafeterias this week. Several parents have said in social media posts, comments and videos that their children in the Northside and San Antonio independent school districts were served the flavored pink milk and found it slimy or chunky, with a few students who drank it later reporting a burning throat or upset stomach.
San Antonio chefs share their school lunch hacks The district’s child nutrition department immediately directed campuses to stop serving the milk as a precaution as soon as it learned of the concerns, Perez said in a prepared statement. “We have confirmed that none of the milk served on Sept. 18 was expired and NISD Child Nutrition used standard operating procedures in receiving, holding, and serving the milk products.
Some schools struggle to keep students fed Other school districts reported no problems with strawberry milk, which is commonly stocked in school cafeterias as an alternative to white or chocolate milk. In 2014, one Southside ISD school, Losoya Intermediate, returned the pink liquid to its menu options — their brand was Borden — after two sixth-graders there gathered 230 signatures on a petition to bring it back.
