The crash killed 38-year-old Katherine Smith.

Shortly after midnight Sunday morning, Mobile Police say Spencer Strickland ran through a red light at McGregor Avenue and Airport Boulevard.In the surveillance video, you can see the light turn red and almost six seconds go by when Strickland’s pickup truck approaches the red light.Smith was crossing onto Airport when she was hit directly on her driver’s side.Smith was a member of the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association and served as the MAMGA Court 2017 Queen.

Marcus Catchings is the Public Relations Officer with MAMGA.“Katherine is a uh....her smile is sticking in me right now. Her laugh is also as infectious as both of them are. She’s a woman that you watch grow up in front of your eyes,” Catchings said emotionally. “And of course you know we don’t think that these junctions in life that we’ll see our gems of Mobile pass in front of us and thinking they have many many years in front of them.
