While this is the first time Hoult has been spotted as Lex Luthor, previous Superman set photos might help explain why the villain is bloody.
Some of the fan-favorite names for who might be behind the mask include Ulysses and Ultraman. However, given how Lex Luthor is the film's main villain, it could be a surprise twist that he's actually a physical threat to Corenswet's Superman, not just an intellectual one. Lex could then be the character behind the armor, and him fighting the Man of Steel would explain the bruises Hoult displays in the new Superman set photos.
