Here's what to do if your student loan payment looks higher than you expected.
HOUSTON — Hundreds of thousands of people were billed the wrong amount when the pause on student loan payments ended this month.
“Because of the Department’s stringent oversight efforts and ability to quickly catch these errors, servicers are being held accountable and borrowers will not have payments due until these mistakes are fixed,” the Department of Education said in a statement sent to CNN. The mistakes impact roughly 1% of the 28 million borrowers entering repayment for the first time since the pandemic pause was put into place in March 2020.
