The fire broke out in a commercial building at 1655 E. 14th St. on Sunday morning and was knocked down in about an hour and 20 minutes.

A large commercial fire in downtown Los Angeles combined with weather conditions has led to a strong, lingering odor of smoke across the greater Los Angeles area, including the San Fernando Valley, the Los Angeles Fire Department said Sunday morning, Aug. 21.

The fire was reported at 2:57 a.m. at 1655 E. 14th Street and was knocked down in about an hour and 20 minutes.Some 150 firefighters battled the flames, and heavy damage was confined to the 200 foot x 150 foot one-story, metal clad commercial structure and an adjacent six-bay automotive storage or repair facility. Two adjacent commercial structures were successfully protected, the fire department said.
