A key Southern California water source is set to receive new funding for added water protections and clean-up for the well-traveled mountain region.

The San Gabriel Mountains are 70% of the open space in Los Angeles County. The area, which is almost half a million acres, is designated as a national monument. The stretch is used primarily for recreation. In 2021, more than 4.5 million people visited the area.Trash is a big issue. Now the state and the federal government are sending $3.5 million to help with maintenance and cleanup.
