Storms coming overnight in Chicago; severe thunderstorm watch issued
CHICAGO — A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for part of the Chicago area, as a new round of severe weather threatens the area overnight.Overnight, a powerful complex of storms developed in Minnesota and Wisconsin, blasting southward toward the Chicago area. This complex of storms may create a swath of wind damage more than 240 miles long, qualifying it as a 'derecho' event.The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 1 a.m.
A severe thunderstorm warning was in place Monday night for the Madison and Wisconsin Dells areas in Wisconsin Tuesday night.Storms race through our area from north to south between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m., and calm weather returns midday. If the clouds clear and temperatures heat up into the 90s, the atmosphere may recharge enough to create a second round of strong to severe storms Tuesday evening. However, this is still uncertain.
