A one-time tax rebate for residents of the Aloha State has been delayed by a week for some because of a paper shortage, with the next round of paper checks set to resume beginning next week.
Hawaii's Department of Taxation has sent out 282,887 direct deposits and 6,162 paper checks, amounting to $161,183,700, as of Oct. 10.The state says all of those who filed their tax refunds prior to Aug. 31 should have already received their rebates, both for individuals who opted for a paper check or a direct deposit.
Taxpayers who have not filed their 2021 tax returns have until Dec. 31 to submit them in order to receive rebates. The rebate amount varies by income. Individual filers making under $100,000 per year, and joint filers making less than $200,000 can expect a tax rebate of $300. For individuals making over $100,000 a year, and joint filers making more than $200,000 per year, they will receive one-time tax rebates of $100.
The next round will be sent out the week of Oct. 17 after paper stock shortages prevented the state from sending the next round of paper checks out on time, per Hawaii News Now.Individuals who file tax returns from now until Dec. 31 can expect a paper check up to 12 weeks after they file their 2021 taxes. This tax rebate is one of the various other initiatives in which states are giving money back to taxpayers.
