The legendary three-time Oscar-winning filmmaker is no stranger to the subject, having helmed 1977's Close Encounters of the Third Kind which followed a blue-collar worker who has a life-changing experience with a UFO. Spielberg also famously directed 1982's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
According to Deadline, Amblin Television is partnering with Boardwalk Pictures and Vice Studios for a four-part docuseries about aliens that will premiere on Netflix on September 27. Even though Spielberg's production company is behind the project, he won't be directing it. Yon Motskin, who previously helmed the documentary Generation Hustle, will be behind the camera.
What To Know About The Alien Docuseries Encounters The Spielberg-produced project promises to explore "our extraordinary true stories of encounters with otherworldly phenomena." Each episode will tell a single story, whether it happens to be strange lights in the sky over a Texas town or submersible spacecrafts that haunt a coastal Welsh village. Other episodes look at an alien encounter with schoolchildren in Zimbabwe.
Encounters promises to be told by those who had firsthand experiences, in the places where sightings occurred, and guided by the likes of military personnel and scientists. The docuseries for Netflix, which promises to highlight the profound human impact of these experiences, comes at a significant moment in terms of alien exploration that has been reflected in worldwide headlines.
