Research suggests the region has seen the biggest increase in the number of children in poverty.
Child poverty across the North East of England has climbed 26% since 2014/15, new research suggests.
Statistics on childhood poverty are produced using Households Below Average Income data released annually by the Department for Work and Pensions . The former Labour MP for Redcar said the research did not account for "hardship felt today as a result of the cost-of-living crisis".
