State weighing options to keep DeCamp commuter buses on the road, gov says

Annually, private commuter bus carriers generate approximately $21 million in Federal Transit Administration funds for NJ Transit via their through route revenue miles, which are credited to the state agency, Jim Smith, an agency spokesman, said in 2020. In exchange, the private carriers get NJ Transit owned buses to use in commuter service.

Sharing federal COVID-19 relief funds extended to public transit agencies to offset revenue losses is unlikely, NJ Transit and a former Federal Transit Administration officials said.for CARES Act funding and could only apply for CRRSSA and ARPA funding under certain conditions.
