The United States is planning to sell Poland about $10 billion worth of military equipment.

The deal revolves around High Mobility Artillery Rockets Systems rocket launchers and also includes ammunition for the mobile platform, the defense security cooperation agency announced on Tuesday, which was reported by Bloomberg News. Congress was already notified of the proposed deal under the Foreign Military Sales program.Poland requested to buy 18 M142 HIMARS launchers, 468 HIMARS launcher loader module kits, and 45 M57 Army Tactical Missile Systems, among other requests.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe,” the defense security cooperation agency said in a statement."The proposed sale will improve Poland’s military goals of updating capability while further enhancing interoperability with the United States and other allies.

President Joe Biden and his administration have sought to help their European and NATO allies militarily as Russia's war in Ukraine dominated the global defense conversation. Russia invaded Ukraine in late February of last year, nearly a year ago, and has failed to accomplish nearly all of the goals the Kremlin set out to achieve, including quickly toppling Kyiv and fracturing the NATO alliance.
