St. Luke’s University Health Network disagrees with the decision to rank its hospital eighth best in Pennsylvania
The health network criticized what it called U.S. News’s “misguided methodology.” It disagreed with U.S. News’s decision to rank St. Luke’s Hospital only the eighth best in Pennsylvania.
“It would appear rankings are intended to generate marketing revenue rather than serve as a guide to quality,” readto Ben Harder, the managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. The letter was dated May 24. It was signed by St. Luke’s CEO Richard Anderson and Donna Sabol, St. Luke’s vice president and chief quality officer.The letter from St. Luke’s says U.S.
The rankings fail to consider the cost of care, fail to appropriately weigh patients treated for chronic illnesses and place undue weight on mortality rates, according to St. Luke’s. The letter says St. Luke’s received “A” grades from the Leapfrog Group and scored the highest it could by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.has 14 hospitals and 300 sites in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Schuylkill, Bucks, Montgomery, Monroe, Berks and Luzerne counties in Pennsylvania and Warren and Hunterdon counties in New Jersey.
