If you were driving through St. Johns County on Friday, you might have noticed something unusual: a Christmas tree perched on top of a halfway-built school in RiverTown.
In this Dec. 16, 2010 file photo, a shopper eyes cooking ware gift sets at the J.C. Penney store at Herald Square, New York. A new survey shows consumer confidence dipped in December, even after other reports suggest people increased their holiday spending at the biggest rate in four years. Half of consumers still carry debt from last year’s holiday shopping.
It’s part of a time-honored tradition called “topping off,” marking a milestone in construction and symbolizing good luck, said Stephanie Farmer, Project Executive for Wharton-Smith, the construction company behind the new school.Paul DiPaolo, who lives nearby, said he’s thrilled his grandchildren will attend the school.
She said the growth in the county and the new school, “tells me that everyone wants to live in Florida.”According to the school district, the school is expected to be completed in the summer of 2025 and open for the 2025-2026 school year.
