The largest ocean liner built entirely in the United States will eventually be docked in Mobile for a time.
The ocean liner will be towed to a dock in Mobile before going to its resting spot off the northwest Florida coast.Okaloosa County, Fla., and the SS United States Conservancy are taking its first steps forward in creating the world’s largest artificial reef off the Florida coast.
The ship is currently in Philadelphia and will soon be towed to a dock here in the Mobile, before going on to its resting spot somewhere offshore of the Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Fla., area. FOX10 has learned the decision to move the ship to Mobile had many benefits including, being significantly less expensive. The project contractor will be able to work on the ship the entire time it’s in Mobile and it is also closer to the location where the planned reef will be.
