SpaceX successfully launched its massive Starship rocket on Sunday, marking its most ambitious flight test yet. The company achieved a historic milestone by capturing the returning booster with robotic arms at the launch site.
SpaceX lanzó su enorme cohete Starship el domingo en su prueba de vuelo más audaz hasta la fecha, y atrapó con brazos mecánicos el propulsor que regresó a la plataforma. Con casi 121 metros de altura, Starship despegó al amanecer desde la punta sur de Texas cerca de la frontera con México. Trazó un arco sobre el Golfo de México, igual que los cuatro Starship s anteriores antes de quedar destruidos, poco después de despegar o hundidos en el mar.
SpaceX dijo que tanto el propulsor como la torre de lanzamiento tenían que estar en condición óptima y estable. Si no, terminaría en el golfo como los anteriores. Se consideró que todo estaba listo para atraparlo. La nave espacial de acero inoxidable de aspecto retro en la parte superior siguió su curso alrededor del mundo una vez desprendida del propulsor, con el objetivo de un amerizaje controlado en el océano Índico en donde se hundiría al fondo.
