The agency responsible for overseeing border and water treaties between the U.S. and Mexico is the latest entity to express unease with the commercial space company’s project adjacent to the border near Boca Chica Beach outside Brownsville .

SpaceX facing sanctions from state environmental regulator over clean water law violations On Tuesday, the TCEQ issued sanctions against SpaceX for operating its deluge system, which sprays more than 100,000 gallons of fresh water during Starship launches, without a permit. Meanwhile, a federal lawsuit over the FAA’s approval of Starship operations and beach access impacts continues to wend its way through the courts.

Environmental groups ask feds to halt Starship launches from SpaceX’s South Texas Starbase According to the letter, the discharge could also impact water quality for loggerhead sea turtles and green sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico, and the commission requested that the TCEQ work with the National Marine Fisheries Service on the issue. The fisheries service did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
