SpaceX made history on Tuesday night by landing a Falcon 9 booster off the coast of The Bahamas, marking the company's first international landing for a returning rocket stage. The successful landing paves the way for future missions utilizing a southeast trajectory from Florida launch sites, enabling SpaceX to carry more satellites and even human spaceflight missions like Starship to polar orbits.
SpaceX undertook a Falcon 9 mission with a difference on Tuesday night, landing the booster in a different country from which it was launched. The spaceflight company shared footage of the feat on social media site X.
Recommended Videos “This new landing location allows Falcon 9 to maximize its performance by launching into an optimal southeast trajectory from our launch sites in Florida to carry additional satellites to orbit and also allows us to launch human spaceflight missions such as Fram2 to polar orbits,” SpaceX said in a post on X prior to the launch.
The flight, which lifted off from Cape Canaveral’s Space Launch Complex 40 at 6:21 p.m. ET, deployed 23 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit.
