Greg Flores, 47, a tax preparer for Jackson Hewitt Tax Service, said he decided to run because of the resulting lack of representation in District 1. He faces Manuel López, 67, a former board member who served from 1996 to 2010. “Some of our buildings are the oldest in the county,” Flores said, stressing a need to make security upgrades and replacements.López said the need to be financially responsible means admitting that enrollment is too low at West Campus High School and Athens Elementary School to keep them open.

The four trustees who attended the Sept. 19 meeting voted to seek the removal of Villagomez and another board member absent that night, Shirley Ibarra. The District Attorney’s Office said Friday it had not received anything on it from the district’s lawyers or anyone else.
