Local football standouts make it official!
Smithson Valley High School football player, Grant Woods sits with his parents, Heath and Denise Woods, after signing with Navy, during an event at the school, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022.Colton Thomasson never wavered from his commitment to Texas A&M despite the struggles the Aggies endured on the field in 2022 in going 5-7.
Thomasson is one the state’s premier offensive lineman, who stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 325 pounds. He signed with the Aggies after pledging to them in July 2021. “I was looking up at the student section and they were swaying and singing the ‘Aggie War Hymn,’ and if you’ve never seen it, the stadium moves,” Thomasson said. “I found that I loved everything about the school, and they say you commit to the school, not the program. I love everything about Texas A&M on top of the football program.”
Thomasson is graduating early from Smithson Valley and will enroll at Texas A&M in January. He’ll head to College Station shortly after playing in the All-American Bowl, a national high school all-star game, on Jan. 7 at the Alamodome. Woods committed to Navy on Dec. 10. He was the Rangers’ leading tackler playing linebacker and defensive end. He also had offers from Army, Sam Houston State and Texas A&M-Commerce. He also received some preferred walk-on offers, including one from Texas A&M.
