A pilot was hospitalized after plane crashed in a field in Sandusky County, authorities say. CLYDE, Ohio — A 69-year-old pilot was seriously injured Saturday when his plane crashed into a Sandusky County field after developing engine trouble, authorities say.

Richard Hines, of Port Clinton, was flown by helicopter to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo following the crash, according to the State Highway Patrol. He reportedly was in stable condition. The crash occurred just before 1 p.m., the patrol says in a news release. Hines was piloting a 1964 Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee when the plane started having engine trouble.
