For reference: SMU is currently the only nationally-ranked team that’s jumped from the Group of Five to a power conference in the modern era of realignment. No. 8 BYU, which is the only team that SMU has lost to this season, is the closest comparison after its move from independent play to the Big 12 last year. Even it went 2-7 in conference play during its first power conference season.
