Two people are in custody after a high-speed chase ended in a crash in Rockwall County.
A sheriff’s deputy was shot at during a high-speed chase that ended with a crash in Rockwall County .The chase started around 9:30 p.m. on Monday in Royse City , which is about 30 miles northeast of Dallas.The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy tried to pull over a driver in a white SUV who had an obscured paper tag. The driver refused to stop, and the sheriff’s office said a passenger in the SUV fired multiple shots, hitting the bumper of the deputy’s vehicle.That deputy was not hurt.
The chase continued to FM 548 near State Highway 276, where the passenger jumped out of the SUV. The driver kept going and crashed about 5 miles away near Interstate 30.The sheriff’s office said the driver was not moving after the crash.He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.The passenger was caught and also taken to the hospital for treatment.He’s expected to face multiple criminal charges.
