UCSD dresses just nine players because of injuries and plays only eight in loss to Rainbow Warriors in paradise
The Tritons jumped out to an early 12-point lead against Hawaii, led at the half, only to let a win slip away, falling to the host Rainbow Warriors 69-62 at SimpliFi Area on Thursday night.
Then the Tritons started missing deep 3s, runners in the lane, open jumpers. In all, the Tritons missed their next 11 shots from the field, enabling Hawaii to go on a 17-1. A 38-32 lead morphed into a 49-39 deficit. But Samuta Avea hit a 3 on Hawaii’s next possession and the Rainbow Warriors hit all six of their free throws in the final 56 seconds to stave off the Tritons.
After shooting 50 percent in the first half, the Tritons lost their shooting eye the final 20 minutes, shooting 31.3 percent . UCSD opened the half 1 of 14.
