Sherri Shepherd revealed that doing jail time made her realize how much more she could achieve in life.

The talk show host explained in an interview with, “Yeah, I went to jail for not paying my tickets. At the time I did not think being in jail was a good moment, but looking back I learned to pay all my bills.” She added, “Jail, that was a classroom…it was a life lesson, and now I pay my bills on time.” Before hitting it big, Shepherd served eight days in jail in the early '90s for owing $10,000 in unpaid moving violations.

The comedian previously opened up about that experience in an interview about her Christian faith within 2006. “I was in a jail for six or eight days, for traffic warrants. I felt like I was going to die. All this stuff was happening to me because I didn’t have God. I wasn’t going to church,” she told the outlet. “When I say I was walking dead, I had nobody. I knew how important it was to have God in your life. I felt like, God, I love making people laugh, and this feels so natural.
