San Jose Sharks place goalie James Reimer on injured reserve and recall forward Jeffrey Viel from the Barracuda.
The San Jose Sharks placed goalie James Reimer on injured reserve Monday and have recalled forward Jeffrey Viel from the Barracuda, the team’s AHL affiliate.
A team spokesperson said Reimer, forward Nico Sturm, and defensemen Mario Ferraro all flew with the team Monday to Montreal, where the Sharks begin a four-game road trip against the Canadiens on Tuesday. Sturm and Ferraro are already on IR. Sharks coach David Quinn said after the team’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday that Ferraro, out with a lower-body injury, would not join the team on the trip. But those plans changed, and Ferraro, if he’s able to play, would be eligible to be activated prior to the Sharks’ game with the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
Ferraro last played Friday against the Los Angeles Kings. He blocked four shots in that game and was placed on IR the next day. The Sharks also have games against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday and close out the trip against the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday.
