“Five years of your life is not a short amount of time. It’s definitely time in my life that I’ll cherish, for sure,” Longoria said of his time with the Giants.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Wearing a Sedona-red jersey with “D-backs” emblazoned on the front, Evan Longoria received a modest ovation Wednesday as he was introduced at Scottsdale Stadium, then as he stepped into the batter’s box for his two plate appearances.
“It’s good to be back,” Longoria said after his duties for the day were over, grounding into a double play and striking out in two plate appearances as a designated hitter. “Nothing but love for those guys over there. I miss being around them on a daily basis.” There was a time, Longoria said, when he thought he would play his entire career in Tampa Bay. His life changed when the Rays dealt him to San Francisco in December 2017 for a package of four players. But while he admitted it was a difficult adjustment early on, and then spent his final three years living hundreds of miles apart from his wife and young kids, Longoria said he came to appreciate his time in San Francisco.
