The Bay Area was soaked by a narrow band of rainfall Sunday, and more is on the way.
The San Francisco Bay Area was soaked by a narrow band of rainfall on Sunday morning that’s expected to continue to work its way through the region, with a chance of isolated showers lingering throughout the evening, the National Weather Service said. “It took me a little by surprise, and the first couple of rainfalls of the season can certainly do that,” said Dalton Behringer, a meteorologist for the weather service's Bay Area office.
Some parts of the Bay Area may get as much as another quarter of an inch of precipitation, and a 10 to 15% chance of thunderstorms is possible in the North Bay; a few lightning strikes reportedly touched down in Mendocino County early this afternoon, Behringer said. There’s no risk of widespread flooding, but some light ponding in the roadways may occur in the North Bay. People are encouraged to drive carefully, as the rain could result in slick pavement.
