A wanted sex offender is back in custody in Las Vegas after hiding in Mexico for 17 years, according to federal authorities.
Robert Sturgiss is pictured in this undated photo. Federal authorities say Sturgiss is back in Las Vegas after he absconded from parole and hid in Mexico for 17 years.
He was extradited for a parole violation and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Dec. 20. His last name is spelled as Sturgess in jail records.The Marshals Service says Sturgiss was convicted of illegal sexual contact with a 13-year-old victim in 1991. He was granted parole in 2005 but absconded from supervision two years later.
