Thunderstorms, some of which could be severe, will roll across parts of Alabama today.

Jim Stefkovich, Meteorologist, Alabama Emergency Management Agency, said the showers and storms will come ahead of an approaching frontal boundary that will mainly affect the northern half of the state this afternoon and evening.

A few storms north of I-59 will produce frequent lightning with heavy rainfall and may also produce damaging wind gusts and hail to quarter size. South of I-59 the storms will be weakening, and a couple of damaging wind gusts are possible during the evening hours, Stefkovich said. The area under a slight risk includes the northwestern part of the state, including areas like Florence, Decatur and Huntsville. Storms will arrive about 3 p.m. and last until 7 p.m.
